Clamps

Clamps are used to join and secure parts in a turbo setup where tightness, strength and correct fitment are all important. They are typically used on charge pipes, intercooler hoses, intake systems, exhaust parts and on connections such as V-band joints between the turbo, downpipe and other components. In street cars, motorsport and custom builds alike, clamps are an important part of the setup, especially when working with higher boost pressure and temperatures.

When choosing clamps for turbo, it is important to look at the type and application. This may include V-band clamps for exhaust and turbine connections, T-bolt clamps for boost hoses or other clamps for the intake and cold side. Diameter, material, clamping force and how the clamp fits the pipes and couplers are all important for a stable and tight connection. A correctly chosen clamp helps reduce the risk of leaks and ensures a more reliable solution.

What are clamps for turbochargers used for?
Clamps for turbochargers are used to secure and seal connections between the turbo, turbine housing, turbo inlet and turbo outlet. They ensure a stable and leak-free connection even under high boost pressure and high temperatures, where ordinary hose clamps are often not sufficient.

What is the difference between V-band clamps and regular turbo clamps?
V-band clamps distribute the clamping force evenly all the way around the connection and provide a more precise and tighter connection than traditional clamps. They are typically used on turbo inlets and outlets, turbine housings and downpipes, especially in performance and motorsport applications.

How do I know which clamp fits my turbo?
It depends on the turbo model, flange type and diameter. Clamps in this category are compatible with, among others, Garrett GT and GTX30/35, Garrett G25 series, Borg Warner EFR 6258, 6758 and 7163, as well as Precision Turbo Engineering CAE 5 and 6 series. It is important to match the clamp correctly to the inlet, outlet and flange type such as divided or twin scroll.

Is there a difference between clamps for turbo inlet and turbo outlet?
Yes. Turbo inlet and turbo outlet may have different diameters, flanges and load requirements. The outlet side is often exposed to higher temperatures, which places greater demands on the clamp’s material and construction. Clamps should therefore always be selected specifically for the relevant connection.

Can these clamps be used for motorsport and track days?
Yes. V-band clamps and performance-oriented turbo clamps are suitable for street use, track days and motorsport. They are designed to withstand repeated disassembly, vibrations, high boost pressure and extreme temperatures without losing clamping force or fitment.

Are clamps reusable after disassembly?
Yes, quality turbocharger clamps can be reused as long as they are not deformed or damaged. That is one of the advantages of V-band clamps, as they make servicing and adjustment of the turbo system faster and more precise.
